Recruiting

New Girl Scout Troops forming for Fall 2012

Are you ready to join Girl Scouting?  We are beginning to form new troops that will start in Fall 2012.  Most troops start new program at the beginning of the school year, so this is a great time to join an existing troop, or start one of your own!

We need to get a little information about you and your daughter so we can get you connected with a troop.  Please download and mail in this Contact Form, OR you can fill out our online form and submit to us electronically.

If you have any questions about Girl Scout, or starting a new Troop, you are welcome to contact us by phone or email.  If you know that you would like to start a new troop in the Fall, we would really like to begin your Leader Training over the summer (much of it can be done online), so be sure to contact us early!

Car Wash, Saturday 6/9, 9am-3pm.  We’ll need help washing cars, receiving money, and waving signs on Napa Road to attract all those dirty cars.  Adults and girls needed to help during the day.

These four upcoming fundraisers will generate much needed funds for our Girl Scout Day Camp and local program for girls.  Patches, room rentals, and our program events are all paid by Service Unit funds.  Scholarships for uniforms and events are also available to families that need assistance.  Thanks in advance for your help and support of these important (and fun!) events.

Kidpower Workshop on April 28th

Troop 10117 is hosting  a Kidpower Parent-Child Workshop on April 28th in Sonoma.
K-2nd Grade:  9:30am-11:30am
3rd-5th Grade:  12:30pm-2:30pm

In this active, upbeat workshop, kids practice using “People Safety” skills in everyday life situations familiar to people their age. People Safety skills help prevent problems with peers, family, and strangers. The skills also help strengthen important relationships by improving communication. Practicing People Safety skills can build confidence and improve safety with people at school, in the neighborhood, at home, online — everywhere!  For more information about the program, visit www.kidpower.org.

Cost is $45 per child.   Download the Kidpower Flyer for more information and registration instructions.

Are you type A, B or O?

Whatever BLOOD type you are (did you think we were talking about your personality?) we want your blood!  The Blood Centers of the Pacific is holding a blood drive in honor of Gary Shipston, a Girl Scout father who will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant next month.  While we are not donating blood specifically for Gary, we are showing our support for him and others that are in need of life-saving blood during treatment.

Their mobile coach will be in the parking lot of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church (16290 Arnold Drive, Sonoma, CA) on Sunday, April 1, from 8:30am – 12:30pm.  Sign-up on-line at www.bloodheroes.com and click on “Donate Blood” and enter sponsor code: standrew.  Donors must be at least 18 years of age.  Bring photo ID.  Walk-ins always welcome.

Girl Scouts will be there with just the right cookie flavor to give you a boost of energy after you donate.  Please pass the word and feel free to share this flyer with friends and family.   See you on April 1st!

Town Square Celebration on Monday, March 12th

Girl Scouts from Sonoma enjoyed a fun evening in the downtown Plaza amphitheater for our Town Square Celebration of the 100th Birthday of Girl Scouting. Mayor Joanne Saunders was our featured guest and read a Proclamation from the City Council.  Along with some traditional Girl Scout songs, a candlelight ceremony preceded the countdown to 7:12pm (19:12 military time) with a Happy Birthday song to Girl Scouting.  A great event and lots of fun memories.

The Black Bear created a special Thin Mint Cookie Sundae just for Girl Scouts on Monday. It was delicious!

Special thanks to the City of Sonoma, Mayor Joanne Saunders, the entire Rank Family, and all the volunteers who helped with tonight’s program.  We also want to recognize the Black Bear Diner for hosting a special Dine & Donate all day, with a percentage of the proceeds going to Girl Scouting in Sonoma.   Happy 100th Birthday Girl Scouts!
